Anti-KJV readings in the RVG

Welcome to the “Here Comes Gomez” portion of our website, and specifically that part where we deal with the lies being told by the supporters of the Gomez “bible”. We call it “Here Comes Gomez” based on a Chick tract by that title, which has a Mexican gangster getting ready to “cut up” someone (kinda' like “Dr.” Gomez has “cut up” the Valera Bible). In this series of mini articles, we shall document that the above advertisement, found on the website that bears the name of Humberto Gomez, is a lie. We will also document the dozens of places where the Gomez lines up with the Alexandrian text (and AGAINST the TR) and the hundreds of places where it lines up AGAINST the KJV.

In this advertisement there are exactly 4 lies. There are precious few who are willing to confront these lies and document them for all to see. It is not politically correct to criticize “the man of God.” Nevertheless, every once in a while we will post one or more of the hundreds of erroneous and contradictory verses to be found in the Gomez Bible.

Lie # 1: With just a cursory review of the Gomez bible one can see that it in no way “reads like the beloved English King James Version.” We have so far documented at least 500 verses where the Gomez reads AGAINST the KJV and AGAINST the original Valera Bible. The only question that remains is: Why did he do it? Why is he so intent on destroying the beauty and accuracy of the original Valera Bible? We believe this man is stuck on himself. He was given many opportunities by numerous individuals who warned him to cease and desist. He was warned that tampering with the word of God is a very dangerous thing indeed. He has plastered his name on his bible and puffed himself up to make the world believe he is a scholar and a “doctor”. He is neither. And more importantly, he has no right to change the Bible.

Lie #2: “The Reina Valera-Gomez has been translated using the Hebrew Masoretic text...” We didn't know that “Dr.” Gomez knew Hebrew. He barely speaks English. Not only that, we have found dozens of places in the OT where the Gomez reads AGAINST the Masoretic text. Others who speak NO Spanish have bought this lie. “It has been demonstrated to our satisfaction that every mistake we have ever been shown in any of the Spanish versions has been corrected in the RVG revision” - Tim Fellure, Pastor of a church in Milton, Florida. Well, we suppose that he has not been shown very many mistakes or else he is lying. We showed his father (Jim Fellure) that the 1865 had 0 mistakes in 2002 and he ignored us because he “preferred” to have Psalm 68:11 say “those who publish” (that is, his printing ministry) instead of “those who evangelize” (the churches in the tribulation). The truth remains, however, that there are dozens of Anti-TR readings in the Gomez Bible. Jim Fellure said that he was going to “patch” the 1909 Bible (and of course change Psalm 68:11 to fit his pet interpretation). And THAT is the problem with the Gomez Bible. It still retains ALL of the corruptions that they failed to “patch”.

Lie #3, “The Reina Valera-Gomez has been translated using the...Greek Textus Receptus...” Is that so? What about the dozens of ANTI Textus Receptus readings found throughout the entire New Testament of the Gomez “bible.” Again, NON Spanish speaking “scholars” are endorsing this mess. “I am pleased to recommend the Spanish Bible of Dr. Humberto Gomez. I have found him to be a kind, careful, humble, and able student who has spent hundreds of hours in carrying out his burden to get the Spanish Bible of 1909 (by which he was led to the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour) in line with the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek Words underlying the King James Bible. He has done this” - D. A. Waite, President of the Dean Burgon Society. Well, first off, he is NOT a Dr. He is an HONORARY “Dr.”, and British and American academic standards dictate that an honorary recipient of a doctorate NOT use the title (oops! There went the inflated ego of about 2000 Baptist preachers in the United States). And it matters not how “humble” he is (is it humble to call yourself “Dr.” and plaster your name on a Bible that other men produced?), humility does NOT qualify “Dr.” Gomez to correct the Bible in Spanish. We’ll let D. A. Waite (who by the way, does NOT believe the KJV to be inspired or God-breathed) know this now: Sorry to burst your bubble “doc”, but the Gomez falls pitifully short (in over 1,000 verses) of lining up with the King James Bible.

Lie #4: “...this definitive translation...” It is NOT a translation. The translation work was done by Drs. Casiodoro de Reina, Cipriano de Valera and Ángel de Mora. All Gomez did was run through the text and change a couple thousand words based on his preferences. Gomez does have one Spanish speaker in his corner (Manny Rodriguez). But again, none of them know Greek or Hebrew. So how do they get off making statements like this: “I have compared his revision (RVG) with other Reina Valera versions, the Textus Receptus, and the King James Bible in my own studies and have found it to be 100% faithful to the Traditional texts. The Spanish language and integrity of the Reina Valera Bible is kept intact. Most importantly, IT IS 100% FREE OF ANY CRITICAL TEXT READINGS WHATSOEVER! Consequently, it reads closer and almost parallel (barring language differences) to the King James Bible” - Manny Rodriguez, Missionary to Puerto Rico. 100%? Well, you must not have done a very comprehensive comparison. We have found well over 50 critical text readings in just our brief study of the Gomez text. That is not 100% in anybody's book. What about all those you have missed Manny my boy?

Lord willing, in this series of articles we will document the truth that the RVG is still replete with dozens of Anti-TR reading, Anti-KJV readings and Anti-Valera readings. And we will continue, Lord willing, to defend Cipriano de Valera (1602) and Ángel de Mora (1865) and every word that they ever wrote, as the perfect and INSPIRED (eat your heart out Dr. Waite) word of God in the Spanish language.
