Cada año la Sociedad Biblica Valera presenta su conferencia anual para cumplir tres propósitos importantes: 1. La predicación de la palabra de Dios, enfocándose en la autoridad de la Biblia de Cipriano de Valera como la palabra de Dios inspirada dada a los hispanohablantes del mundo entero. 2. Nuestra reunión de negocios anual, abierta al público. 3. La predicación de la palabra de Dios en el festival de Calle Ocho que se realiza cada segundo domingo de marzo en la Calle Ocho de Pequeña Habana, Miami.
La parte más importante de las tres es, por supuesto, la predicación callejera, con motivo de alcanzar a los perdidos con el evangelio del Señor Jesu Cristo. El festival de Calle Ocho semeja a los festivales de Nuevo Orleans (Mardi Gras) y Río de Janeiro, Brasil. Dicen los Kiwanis de Miami (los patrocinadores del festival Calle Ocho): “Lo que comenzó en 1978 para compartir nuestro patrimonio Cubano en Miami ha llegado a ser una exhibición panamericana virtual de hoy en día. Un millón de personas vienen de todos lados del mundo para asistir esta fiesta callejera que está ampliamente cubierta por las redes mayores y la prensa internacional.”

THE CALLE OCHO FESTIVAL

Every year the Valera Bible Society presents its annual conference in order to fulfill 3 important functions: 1. The preaching of the word of God, focusing on the authority of the old Valera Bible (1865) as the inspired word of God given to the Spanish speaking peoples of the world. 2. Our annual business meeting, which is completely open to the public. 3. Street preaching in the Calle Ocho (eighth street) festival, which takes place every second Sunday of the march in Calle Ocho, Little Havana, Miami.
Of course the most important part of the three is the Calle Ocho street preaching, where we try to reach the lost with preaching of the gospel of Christ. The Calle Ocho festival is similar to other festivals in New Orleans (Mardi Gras) and Rio de Janeiro (Carnival). The sponsor of the festival, the Kiwanis of Miami, say this on their website: “What started in 1978 to share our Cuban culture in Miami has become the virtual Pan-American showcase it is today. Over one million people come from all over the world to attend this street party that is widely covered by major networks and international press.”
